It is my last official day at internship. Tomorrow I will be holding my Internship Presentation of Learning (IPOL) to future juniors, my advisors, and other guests. I am looking forward to displaying my projects and internship work to those who attend. Today I finished my last weekly prompt as well as rehearsed my presentation, in addition to completing some math homework. My mom gave me the opportunity to work in one of her company's office spaces as well. They are usually rented out but she let me work in one today. This was a great experience since I got to converse with several realtors, financial agents, and others with various business occupations. It's all coming to an end. Today was spent mostly on finishing my IPOL and adding the final touches. I also completed some more blogs and made sure that all my project evidence/products were organized and displayed properly.
To begin day 19, I started to work on a creating a challenging crab talkie. I had the choice between two svgs, but the struggling part was that both had individual teeth paths, which made coding the mouth positions struggling. I eventually found a solution and I think it turned out great. Additionally, I developed a pinecone, two eagles, and maple leaf talkie. Today began my last internship week. I really don't want to go back, I have learned countless valuable skills and life lessons during my time here at Tech4Learning. To start off today, I reviewed all of my creations and edited nay that needed some fixes. I also ensured that Wixie talkie categories were all organized and that my developments were published. Afterwards, I completed my IPOL, so now it is time for me to practice the slides. Presenting usually isn't a struggle for me, I am pretty good at elaborating off of bullet points so I am not that stressed. Finally, I created a watermelon, unicorn, ice cream, and dinosaur talkie. For day 17, Melinda decided to prioritize my IPOL work, and lined up some talkie ideas for me to make next week. Today was a more relaxing day, I was able to work on some Calculus work and prepare for my last game of the season tomorrow. I also decided to complete another soundtrack, this time being Yankee Doodle. Overall, this first online week has been successful and I have created more talkies/soundtracks along the way!!
To start off day 16, I created my agenda for the day and decided I would focus on my IPOL and piano melodies. The three songs that I played today consisted of The Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America, and You Are My Sunshine. On each song I learned the notes initially and recorded through my piano headphones to increase audio quality. Also, I finished my weekly blog and my IPOL slides relating to Tech4Learning and their company's mission.
This morning, I worked on some more talkies that Melinda requested. I coded Jackie Robinson, Obama, and George Washington Carver for the Black History Month talkies. Additionally, I made a groundhog for Groundhog Day and Biden/Trump for election day. For the most part, today was heavily focused on creating specific event talkies. The majority of today was spent playing the piano. I would take requests for certain songs, and both learn and record them, eventually adding them as soundtracks to Wixie. Today I learned Auld Lang Syne as my first "soundtrack". It took a good amount of time to learn both hands, but with time and practice I got it down. In addition to the piano playing, I also started my IPOL today.
Today is my first fully online day. My main priority today was get adjusted to the ne atmosphere and how my internship will feel being asynchronous. For most of the day today, I analyzed my interview with Melinda, added it to my site, and transcribed the audio file. I also touched up on my site and made some changes on my prompts. Tomorrow I will try to start the second half of my project, where my personal piano comes into play...
Today is my final day in the office. Tech4Learning is officially moving out at the beginning of next week :( As for me, I will continue my final project online and from home. Personally, I don't think it will make a difference at all because I already do everything on my computer and I can discuss projects via Zoom. Melinda and I will also regularly continue to meet to converse over internship in person as well. Today, I created a bunny and moon talkie, both requests from teachers. For the majority of day 12 I helped move some furniture out as well as update my blogs. Today I lost my desk :( Tech4Learning is officially moving out tomorrow. For my last two days at T4L I get to work in Melinda's office and/or the lounge space. This morning, I worked on my weekly internship blogs and analyzed some talkies. The talkies I looked over had different animations/transformations coded into them, which makes it 100 times trickier. Melinda and I troubleshooted and worked on a puffer fish, violin(the bow to move when talking), and I brought up some great ideas for the other instruments as well. As for creations, I made an atom talkie where the electrons move as well. I finished off the day getting some positive feedback for my weather talkies from a teacher on LinkedIn. To start off day 10, I got to work on scheduling and preparing my interview with Melinda. Afterwards, I finished my musical talkie set which turned out amazing. I ended with completing the trumpet, violin, radio, vinyl record, and cassette tape. Then, I held my interview with Melinda which went great and I learned a ton of valuable information about her and her company. Today I had to stay home, since their building's power and internet went out due to the rain. This gave me the opportunity to adjust to the asynchronous side of internship, since this Friday T4L is moving out of their office. My last week is going to be completely virtual, so today offered me some insight on how that will feel. This morning I had to redo the Waco Bridge interview, since there was a bug in the file. After recording my parts and making edits/fixes, I got to work on the musical talkies I started yesterday. I created my own face for the musical note and coded the mouth as well. Furthermore, I also created a guitar, saxophone, drum-set, flute, and a microphone. In the morning, Iain and I tested out some talkies and performed a talkie interview as Wixie. We create a Waco bridge interview for students to watch. Afterwards, I created some lessons on Earthquakes and tectonic plates. To finish the day, I found some SVG files of musical instruments, and started to code them into talkies to be displayed on Wixie. Happy Friday! Today is Melinda's birthday, so we all made sure celebrate. To start of the day, I did some more talkie coding. It is definitely a little challenging at times but the rigor makes it a fun activity. I found the vector files of a farm animal set and coded the mouths onto each of them. I created a bull, cow, horse, goat, sheep, and pig. Also, a teacher in Connecticut thanked us for our talkies, since she holds a class for mute students. She said that it is a fun way for them to socialize and talk in class, and how they all love using the little animations. That message deeply warmed my heart since helping out others and the community was a main reason I participated in this internship. For the last couple hours of the day, I began coding transformations on the talkies. My first task was dealing with a barn, and the doors opening to resemble a mouth talking. It was little trickier, but I eventually got it to work. To begin the day, I fixed some errors on the piano activities. When finished, I started to code talkies. Through Inkscape, I would I take the svg vector files of whatever image I would be coding and create a mouth on the animated image. Then, I would move the mouth to an open spot and a closed spot using nodes and obtaining the code for each position. After that, I would paste everything into a singular svg file through NotePad++, adding the boilerplate code as well as the positional code. I would finalize everything by testing the talkie and publishing it onto the site. I developed a sun, shamrock, tornado, backpack, raindrop, quill/ink, snowflake, and stamp. The mouth speaks whatever words you input into its text box. To finish off the day, I found some more possible talkie images. To start off day 5, I completed my first internship blog for the week. afterward, Iain and I worked on testing an activity before its launch. We interviewed each other and made an "Empathy Poster" with an artistic twist. After completion I put my focus back on my main project dealing with piano activities. Today I made more challenging and longer activities, which included Yankee Doodle, The Wheels on the Bus, Three Blind Mice, and Silent Night. I am back in the office after having a great three-day weekend. To start off this week, I spoke with Melinda on progressing towards my final project launch. We decided that I will benefit the musical side of Wixie, by coding different piano songs students can play and eventually recording my own songs, publishing those on Wixie as well. Today I coded the songs Take Me Out to the Ball Game, Mary Had a Little Lamb, La Cucaracha, Happy Birthday, and Hot Cross Buns. On each of the slides there is an image related to the song, and if clicked it plays the whole melody that I coded. To begin my third day, I finished my html coding journey by completing variations of more challenging options. Afterwards, Melinda and I viewed my work and published it on Wixie for teachers to implement into their classrooms. Furthermore, I created some gif animations with Iain and displayed those on Wixie as well. After the gifs were complete, I coded an animated fidget spinner, animated ellipse, and failed an attempt to code an animated football play. This first week was an introduction to coding and programming, and next week I will begin my main project, Today I started to begin html coding. Basically, I would be tasked with coding a lesson plan for teachers to use in the future. I used FileMaker Pro and programmed the lesson plan using the tools provided. All in all, it was fairly easy and after completion, Melinda gave me some more challenging work. I began to code trickier html's as well as "talkies". Talkies are these animated images that are published on Wixie. I searched the web for svg/vector files of possible talkies backgrounds. |
